Mildred and I first connected professionally on Twitter, I then started following Mildred’s blog posts on her website. As a result of our connection on Twitter, I invited Mildred to be the keynote speaker at our careers and employability event for all University of Salford Postgraduates: Postgraduate Futures. During her talk, Mildred covered the power of networks, how social media is an invaluable tool in terms of getting ahead in hidden jobs market and successful CVs.

I would highly recommend Mildred as a speaker, she did her research in terms of the needs of the audience and set the right tone. I was lucky enough to be invited to attend a talk that Mildred was giving to final year students at Southampton Solent University recently. I found Mildred to be engaging, down to earth and interesting. The students seemed to warm to her very quickly and she was therefore able to engage in a two way discussion with them on several occasions. She also succeeded in making them laugh a few times. Mildred’s talk was backed up by a PowerPoint presentation but it did not feel like death by PowerPoint. She obviously knew her stuff and just used the images and videos on the screen to illustrate what she was saying. Following the talk I sought out Mildred’s book on CV writing to ensure that we held a copy in the Universities careers library, which I am glad to say we do. Prior to attending this talk I had heard only good things about Mildred, I was therefore delighted to be invited. I am glad to say that Mildred did not disappoint and I would strongly recommend anyone else to attend a talk she is giving if given the chance.
