“TRY BEFORE YOU BUY”
Handing over your book to an editor – particularly as a first time author – can cause some anxiety so naturally you would want some kind of assurance that it is in the right hands. Mildred offers a low-risk editing taster service which allows you to ‘try before you buy’. For just £35, you can have one chapter of your book (up to 1,000 words) fully edited and returned to you in a form that allows you to see what changes have been made. If you are happy with the editing and wish to continue with Mildred’s services, the taster fee will be deducted from the total package so you lose nothing – a win-win situation. The following packages are based on an average-sized book of 25,000 words (if your manuscript is longer than 25,000 words please get in touch).
PACKAGE 1: Proofreading only
Estimated time length: 7-10 working days
This is suitable if you have fully completed the content and structure of your book and need a professional eye to look over it for minor corrections.
This package involves:
• Proofreading of all content for accuracy in spelling, grammar and sentence structure.
Price: £300
*Additional £25 payable for proofreading of design and printers proofs to ensure all content has been translated correctly in the layout process.
PACKAGE 2: Proofreading and editing
Estimated time length: 2 weeks
This is suitable if you have written all the content and loosely structured your book according to chapters, but need a professional eye to bring it all together in a logical manner so that it reads well.
This package involves:
• Full editing of your manuscript including looking at content arrangement, chapter headings and subtitles;
• Proofreading of all content for accuracy in spelling, grammar and sentence structure;
• Minor fact-checking where applicable.

PACKAGE 3: Full proofreading, editing and marketing

This package is suitable where alongside editing, you also require social media marketing assistance to promote and publicise your book before and after its publication. If you require a more in depth hands-on approach to get your book out, you need the ultimate package. This is suitable for people who already have the idea and content outline for their book, have even ventured to write a few chapters or all of the chapters in brief, but now find themselves stuck and unable to move ahead to completion – that’s where Mildred comes in to help you go from concept and ideas to a complete and fully edited book, ready for publishing.
This package involves:
- An initial introductory consultation to determine the tone of the book and its aims and objectives;
- One weekly two-hour face-to-face meeting and writing session (where possible);
- One weekly two-hour telephone (skype) writing session;
- One weekly 30mins telephone consultation to discuss progress and bounce ideas;
- Full proofreading of all content for accuracy in spelling, grammar and sentence structure;
- Full editing of final manuscript including looking at content arrangement, chapter headings, subtitles, and fact-checking where applicable;
